Junior Livestock Auction
What is the Junior Livestock Auction?
The Junior Livestock Auction is the
culmination of a year's project activities
for 4-H, FFA & Grange members. The
Livestock project is one of the most
valuable educational experiences. A
successful project provides the reward
for the investment of money, time and
personal sacrifice in feeding and
caring for these animals. All projects,
besides teaching scientific agricultural
practices, stress sound business
management, but small scale costs are
high and it is hard to break even at
market prices.

Statement of Auction Purpose
The basic purpose of the 4-H, FFA and
Grange program is education. Through
the vehicle of agriculture, young men
and women have the opportunity, by
participation, to learn a skill, develop
responsibility, receive business
training, and develop attitudes towards
themselves and others. It follows that
the realistic prices awarded in the sale
ring strengthen and reinforce this
educational insituation. Sometimes the
educational lessons of the Fair and
Sale are beclouded if prices are
unrealistically high or if lesser quality is
rewarded more than high quality.

This statement is intended to provide a
means to set realistic prices. A lesson
that is learned by these young people
is that over the years a graphic
example of civic concern and
responsibility has been demonstrated
by the business community of San
Joaquin County, which has earned
our deepest respect and gratitude.
